HONEYTONGUE

I wasn’t sure when she entered the room.

Only that once I noticed

I couldn’t take my eyes off her.

She moved slowly. My heart sank a little deeper with each deliberate step she took.

Not carefully.

Not shyly.

But slowly the way honey finds the shape of whatever holds it.

She was already speaking by the time I noticed her voice.

Because honey moves first.

Slow.

Deliberate.

Melting down the length of a crystal glass….my thoughts start to wander.

She speaks just as sweet but she didn’t speak much.

Which meant either she had lived a very easy life

or a very hard one.

The depth made me suspect the latter.

She listened the way people do

when they already know what they’re keeping

and what they’re leaving behind.

Cedar rises from her skin in quiet waves —

warm, steady, almost devotional.

Orange blossom rests quietly at her throat like something she forgot she was wearing.

Everyone is a little in love with her but she never seemed to notice.

Something softer lived beneath her sigh— peach flesh, or maybe something golden

lingering where her pulse keeps the cadence.

She doesn’t speak of her past.

But the silence around it is careful.

Measured.

Earned.

She listens like someone who already knows what she will forgive and what she won’t.

I don’t remember what she said. But It didn’t matter  Her mouth tasted like stone fruit. My mind started spinning.

She kissed me like a seraphim.

She is everywhere for a moment and then she is gone.

No one ever knows when she leaves. Only that something golden remains in the air afterward-

warmth gathering low in the body

like honey remembering its favorite shape.

She is not asking to be understood.

She is asking to be remembered.

The evening held a peculiar glow.

The warmth stayed longer than it should have.

So did I.

This candle is 8 oz The dimensions are 3 x 3.25 in and is in a iridescent taupe glass candle vessel. This jar is reusable as decor.
